Hotspur Helium (“Hotspur”) is a primary helium exploration and development company. Founded in 2024, Hotspur holds one of the world’s largest helium portfolios, with acreage spanning the Middle East and southern Africa. Focused on helium disassociated from hydrocarbons, the company is applying a first principles approach to advance large scale prospects in stable jurisdictions with established regulatory frameworks. Hotspur aims to provide long term stability to the increasingly vulnerable helium market by supplying up to 10% of global demand through the development of its primary helium portfolio.
Management Profile:
Tom Elliott (Co-founder & COO)
A geologist by training, Tom has wide experience from projects across the Middle East, Africa, Indonesia and Europe. He began his career with Cluff Geothermal working on UK geothermal heating projects. In Ethiopia, he led a US$5m surface exploration campaign, managing licence acquisition, project logistics and field activities; and was responsible for H&S, E&S and QMS policy implementation. In 2024 he co-founded Hotspur Helium with an expert team of helium scientists from leading UK universities, having identified an inevitable supply gap emerging for European and Middle Eastern helium supply. Tom is experienced in corporate management, project finance, contracting, deep drilling, field operations and cross border logistics.
Matt Sharp (Co-founder & CTO)
Matt is a seasoned expert in early-stage exploration, specialising in the advancement of greenfield projects through his strong geoscientific capability. He has designed and implemented large-scale developments, including the 400 MW Fantale and 150 MW Ijen geothermal projects, with a proven track record in managing complex exploration initiatives. In deep drilling, Matt brings extensive experience in onshore rig operations, health and safety protocols and advanced drilling techniques. He holds professional accreditation as a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Geologist, and European Geologist, reflecting a career defined by high-level professional integrity and verified technical expertise.
What are your key goals for the next 3, 6 and 12 months?
3 Months
• Jordan: Completion of existing seismic and well log data review
• Zambia: Completion of Phase 1 field campaign (geochemistry and geology)
• Botswana: Remote sensing work package complete
6 Months
• Jordan: Completion of supplementary data acquisition (geochemistry and geology)
• Zambia: Prospect shortlisting complete
• Botswana: Phase 1 field campaign complete (geochemistry and geology)
12 Months
• 10 site priority shortlist across portfolio
• Additional seismic data acquisition
• Commence independent Competent Persons Reports (CPR) and drill ready planning at top three prospects
• Fundraising preparations for Series B exploration drilling round/IPO
What do you think makes your company such a compelling investment?
• Helium: high-value, low-volume critical mineral, with highly vulnerable supply chain
• Scale: Hotspur’s projects are an order of magnitude larger than our peers
• Geographic diversity: existing licences spread across three countries, with further expansion planned
• Leading team: including the pioneers of primary helium exploration
• Tech-driven: best in class technical analysis, AI-assisted resource delineation
• Track record: demonstrated capability delivering safe, on-time, and on-budget survey campaigns and deep drilling operations; board-level experience in large scale gas production
